Santa Monica Studio may have already started work on the next God of War game.
Back in June, environment artist Nate Stephens spoke about the success of this year’s God of War, and mentioned how he wants to make the next game “bigger, better, longer.” Game director Cory Barlog also revealed that his vision for the series “goes well beyond” one game, so we know that more entries in the series have been planned for a while.
Now, though, the studio seems to be actually hiring. A new job opening for a senior character concept artist opened up at the studio, and seeks someone who can “help us design a rich cast of characters and creatures steeped in story, mythology, mixed with strong historical detail and influences.” Another section of the post asks for an applicant who can “create high quality characters, gods, creatures, and props.” That certainly sounds like a God of War game.
The latest iteration of God of War did ridiculously well in both critical reception and popularity, so Santa Monica Studio has a high bar to clear for any future entries to the franchise. If the studio can deliver more games with the same level of quality, though, we won’t be complaining.
God of War is currently out as a PlayStation 4 exclusive.
