ADG Short And Simple Review: Double Dragon Trilogy (OUYA)

There’s nothing like being able to go back in this day and time in gaming and play your favorite retro games. DotEmu is giving us a chance to relieve the first three Double Dragon games on Ouya.

STORY

Double Dragon, Double Dragon 2: The Revenge, and Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone tell the story of two kick booty brothers that happen to be martial art experts.  The first one begins with Billy and his brother Jimmy, two martial arts experts, in a mission to rescue Billy’s girlfriend, Marian, who’s been kidnapped by the Black Shadows Gang. The second one is all about Billy and Jimmy’s quest to revenge Billy’s girlfriend, Marian’s death. The Rosetta stone tells a story of the brothers meeting a fortune teller Hiruko that tells them of an evil adversary they must stop by collecting three legendary Rosetta stones.

GAMEPLAY

The gameplay is retro and just like you remember simple button mashing controls. Ironically if you add another controller their isn’t options to change the setup. You just have to adjust to whatever your controller setup is.

MULTIPLAYER

On the local multiplayer (co-op) side of  things, I can now remember some of the horrors of always hitting your co-op partner. A few aggravating platform areas and areas that didn’t allow much room to navigate while fighting are definitely a pain.

NOTABLE INFO

  • You can’t have infinite continues in Arcade Mode. Very weird.
  • You can unlock chapters and start in those chapters for short gameplays later.
  • Great for all fans of Double Dragon
