How Gamers Could Destroy The Gaming Industry

By

Gamer’s are very passionate. They are true to the games they love but in honesty sometimes gamers cause more issues than they realize. This is an issue that has been in my mind for awhile. Gamer’s love to spread rumors on games and consoles even when they know nothing about them. Why would they do such a thing? Well I will explore some theories I have.

*The theries below may extend beyond the three mentioned

Theory One – Social Gaming

One thing that comes to mind is social gaming. You know these friends list on X-Box Live and Playstation Network can be a good thing but I think a lot of people probably mostly the younger audience are viewing it the wrong way. They fear that their late purchase of Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is going to go to waist cause Call Of Duty Black Ops 2 (I’m using the COD franchise as an example, nothing more) is out. So they look for every reason to stop their friends from playing the next game. Maybe they can’t get it right away or maybe they think that they’ll never be able to get it. Instead of using the friends list to find more people to play with while some of their others play Black Ops 2, they start what I’m going to call in this article “New Game Bashing”. You see it all the time new game comes out and suddenly the last game that was sucking when it was new is now the greatest thing cause the new entry is out. Statements such as “WWE 13 is trash..WWE 12 is way better” but when WWE 12 was out people was praising WWE 11 the same way. It’s ridiculous and childish. Just because you fear not being able to play with a few friends on your friends list. Do something else with your time..play some single player or get new friends. There was a time when multiplayer didn’t exist and you actually played the game for what you wanted to play not just cause all your friends were playing it.

Black Ops 2 Sucks?…Yeah..Cool Story Bro!..

Theory Two: Fanboyism

The other thing is complete fanboyism. When the only thing you see is a certain game or console and will never venture outside of it. I never understood being a complete fanboy. There’s nothing wrong with some fanboyism but when it clouds your vision to see relative great products and games gamers should really question themselves. Gamers spend hundred of dollars to play one game every year. What is the point in that? With the price of consoles and how amazing gaming as become shouldn’t us gamers try to enjoy your purchase to the fullest. None the less, Gamer’s will go to the extend to completely bash a console or game even when it might deserve praise.

Theory Three: Income

The last reason why I believe people spread rumors on games and consoles is just not being able to afford them. You know its so easy to point a finger and hate on something you can’t have. This also connects in on the first thing I mentioned with social gaming. Trying to keep up with your friends so you spread hate on what you can’t have..at least till it goes on sale. This is another reason I believe behind hate on games and consoles. Gamer’s try to bash a game or console into its sale point instead of supporting the game or console for the price it deserves and need to be sold at. This is actually killing gaming companies as they are not making profits that they need to to make their game a success in the end some of the biggest companies such as THQ, Sega, etc are having financial issues.

Binary Domain – It deserved so much more than what gamer’s gave it.

My Cry To Save The Industry

I understand that gamers have the right to praise their games and even tell why they don’t like a particular game. Most games this past generation that got tore apart by the gaming community didn’t deserve the complete bash they got. I still don’t understand why some have issues with Uncharted 3′s Multiplayer. While it is different from Uncharted 2 and much harder, it doesn’t deserved the classic complete “It Sucks” rant it receives. Luckily, Uncharted 3 has a great community that loves the game and it is surviving strong with events and more but some games don’t have that and they are literally torn apart because of that. Titles such as Space Marines, Ratchet and Clank All For One, Resistance 3, Street Fighter X Tekken, etc. may have had issues but didn’t deserved to be completely ripped by media and gamers.

There was a time when gamers respected the opinions of what their friends was playing and not what their friends list was playing. You would go to your friends house and they would tell you “Hey, I got this cool game. You should check it out” and gamers would actually give it a chance. That aspect in the gaming community doesn’t exist anymore. I feel before the “friends list” time games begun to flourish more. While the friends list and social gaming are important, gamers are viewing it the wrong way. This is leading to hate and unnecessary bashing just cause you want someone to babysit your gaming. I’m sorry and this will come off wrong to a lot of people reading this but if you need friends that bad to enjoy yourself or games then you need psychiatric help.

Some Would Say Ruined By EA, I Say Success By EA Ruined By Some Gamers.

We do live in hard times and income is an issue but to blame a company because you can’t afford their product is ridiculous. It’s like going to McDonald’s and being mad that the Quarter Pounder isn’t on the Value Menu. You have to find a way to get that Quarter Pounder it isn’t McDonalds fault or EA, Activision, Valve, or any company for that matter you can’t afford their product. They are in it to make a dollar and to live just like you. If they aren’t making profit then they may not be eating that Quarter Pounder or even worse at McDonald’s period.

While opinions should be accepted with welcome arms in the gaming industry so it can learn from it mistakes. I feel opinions are gave out that much anymore in the manner to help improve gaming. Most rants and opinions come from gamers that are living in fear. Fear of what might be the next console they can’t afford, fear of what their friends might be playing before they can, fear of the next big thing in gaming. While this does not include everyone there is a lot of people  taking their opinions to far and literally poisoning consoles and video games that deserve to be so much more. I hope a few least understand what I’m saying here and offer a more subtle approach. Instead of giving rants, give positive feedback and advice to improve not just to destroy the game, the console, the gaming industry.
