Short And Simple Review: R.A.W. Realms Of Ancient War

Posted on September 23, 2012 AT 01:18am

R.A.W. , which is the abbreviation of its subtitle Realms of Ancient War is a new Hack in Slash that we’ll be available on all consoles and PC. This review will reflect on my time playing on the Xbox Live Arcade version which received the game first.

The game story revolves around a continent engulfed in war for ten years. There’s Four Kingdoms Of Men, Elves and Dwarves who are in trouble by raiders and looters. In other words, just utter chaos is destroying this kingdom. Each kingdom seeked out to investigate the issues at hand but no one returned. This where you come in and happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

You Will Need Might And Magic To Defeat Your Foes!

The story is very complex. There are times at the beginning of mission where you’re trying to read the text and it goes by very fast. With the complexity of the story missing anything could be an issue. Though the story is very deep and rewarding to those that follow well. The cinematics for the story are also done very well. All these elements make for a very nice presentation.

The gameplay focuses on traditional Hack’n Slash gameplay with RPG elements. Every time I loaded this game up, I couldn’t help but to think of an old favorite series of mine from my PS2 days, Everquest: Champions Of Norrath. That game offered the same style of gameplay as this game offers except it actually had online capability with up to 4 players, unlike this title that only offers offline co-op. There’s loads of lore in this game for you and your partner. The gameplay basically succeeds on its easy control scheme making the gameplay fun. It’s just too bad we can’t share the fun and lore with a friend online.

Some other great things about this game are the graphics. You can use skill points to gain new skills and magic to gain the advantage in battle which you will need if you are adventuring out on your on. The soundtrack is very memorable and catchy. The HUDs and menus are classy. There’s blood, great details on your armor and items in inventory, and a good physics system.  Theres a great amount of incredible characters and enemies in the game. The artwork and cinematics are also well done. These things are wonderful and Focus Home Interactive should be proud of all these great things they squeezed into this digital title.

Second Live Session Of Raw On

Short And Simple
Is It Fun? Yes
How’s The Soundtrack? Sets the tone of a blockbuster film.
Good Gameplay? Gameplay is pretty good. AI is very challenging at times missions are easier with a friend in local co-op. Which makes it sad the game doesn’t have online co-op.
Does It Have Good Graphics? Yes
Good Online - Sadly, theres no online. Which I don’t understand. Co-Op was offered yet not over X-Box Live.
Replayability? Replayability is high. There are 3 classes & lots of loot. The ability to level up also adds to the replayability.
With that being said only “Play It!” If you love Hack’n Slash action style RPG gameplay and don’t mind doing it solo. If you aren’t up for a challenge and don’t have any friends “This May Not Be For You”
