Dominic Rice of Menzies Close, Southampton has entered the annals of video gaming fame today as he is crowned Pokémon Apprentice in the national Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Battle Tournament 2014 Grand Final. Dominic beat off stiff competition in the regional heats in Southampton, and was crowed winner in the Pokémon Apprentice category in London on 26th April 2014 where comedian Johnny Vegas was on hand to present the award.

The Pokémon Apprentice battles saw new, enthusiastic Pokémon Trainers from across the country compete, using their best Pokémon moves to win a mega bundle of Nintendo 3DS games. Dominic emerged victorious from his rivals in the final heat by using level 50 Goodra and Jolteon with the Thunder Bolt move. Dominic showed off his Pikachu moves in three heats in Southampton before using Pokémon Ferrothorn and Tyranatar in the final battle in London to be crowned Pokémon Apprentice.

Dominic commented on the Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Battle Tournament 2014 Grand Final;  “It feels amazing to have won the Pokémon Apprentice title, I was worried about the Grand Final, but my Goodra served me well in the final battle. It was very exciting to have been presented with my award by Johnny Vegas and I can’t wait to show off my award to all of my friends who love Pokémon as much as I do!”
