THE BUZZ: Nintendo will release an update for the Nintendo 3DS next week, adding the ability to better organize programs and update software.

The update, landing on April 25, lets users create folders on the HOME menu to organize their content. Now, downloadable games, videos and demos can be filed away so you don’t have to scroll through dozens of icons to find that one game you want to play.

The update also gives Nintendo the ability to patch games. The first patch mentioned will come mid-May for Super Mario Kart 7, “resolving shortcut exploits in the game.”

Finally, you will now see recommendations in the eShop, leading you to new and wonderful ways to spend your money. You’ve gotta love directed marketing.

EGM’s TAKE: The most significant addition to the system has to be the folders. We’ve been cursing the long-scroll since Nintendo released the 3DS Ambassador titles last year, adding 20 tiny icons to our systems. We love downloading new games and demos, but we hate how cluttered our systems have become. So thank you Nintendo for helping our anal-retentive selves get organized.

We appreciate the ability to patch games as well, though we hope this doesn’t negatively impact the careful quality control Nintendo is known for. Using this ability as an excuse to release unfinished software has become all too common (we’re looking at you Bethesda).
