Day 1 Studios Layoffs
Posted on December 3, 2011 AT 09:11am
THE BUZZ: Sad news broke yesterday when we learned that F.E.A.R 3 developer Day 1 Studios announced it laid off 95 percent (100 employees) of its Chicago based development team. Gamespot is reporting that the layoffs are a result of losing a publishing deal with Japanese publisher Konami. The team was developing a sequel to Konami’s classic Silent Scope franchise. No word on why the publishing deal fell through. Meanwhile, the rest of the Day 1 Studios team is said to be working on a yet to be announced game that will hopefully turn the developer’s fortune around.
EGM’s TAKE: It’s scary when a single publishing deal can have such a deep impact on the well being of so many people. There is a lot of talent at Day 1 Studios and hopefully they can find work sooner rather than later.
