Final Fantasy

It’s a simple fact: You can’t take on Final Fantasy XV‘s vast open world of Eos on your own. Whether you’re cruising in your car, the Regalia, sharing food over a campfire, or battling a Behemoth, you’ll want to have some friends by your side. Here’s a list of the folks you’ll meet in FFXV to get you started.

Noctis Lucis Caelum

The main character and, barring some promised future DLC episodes, the sole playable character in Final Fantasy XV, Noctis is the Crown Prince and heir to the kingdom of Lucis. Gone is what former series director Tetsuya Nomura called the “Cloud-like” silent and sullen personality. Instead, Noctis is a young man struggling with the burden of leadership?he’s shy, but hides it under a tough act to protect his kingdom and his friends. A bit of a troublemaker, Noctis is often the instigator that drags the rest of his party into danger.

Gladiolus Amicitia

With a long family history of guarding the Lucis royal family, Gladiolus spent his life training to protect Noctis, but the two share a genuine bond of freedom as well. Direct and to-the-point, Gladiolus is the most skilled fighter of the group with the highest physical power and HP. He attacks with Greatswords as his Primary Arm, but can equip Shields as his Secondary for a balanced mix of offense and defense.

Ignis Scientia

Another childhood friend of Noctis’, Ignis is a strategist at heart and the would-be “mom” of the group. Though composed, brainy, and serious on the surface, Ignis is also the one who ends up chauffeuring the group around and nagging Noctis to eat his vegetables. He wields a set of knives as his Primary Arm, stabbing enemies directly at close range and kicking his blades towards them at a distance. His nurturing nature, too, plays a part: He’ll help Mark locations for Noctis to Warp Strike to and keep the party on its feet with Cure.

Prompto Argentum

Noctis’ troublemaking tendencies didn’t come from nowhere. An outsider to the prim and proper royal society, Prompto’s free-spirited nature is a bit of a bad influence on Noctis. Unlike the others, Prompto doesn’t have extensive combat training, reflected in his low HP. He makes up for that, however, with his explosive Firearms and skill with Tools?not to mention his camera. Prompto brings the team together with his desire to document the road trip, snapping photos that the player can choose to upload to real-life social media.

Guests

While Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto always have Noctis’ back, a handful of other characters will join in the party temporarily. First up is Cor Leonis, head of the Royal Family Guards and one of the strongest fighters in the entire kingdom. A man of honor, Cor fights with his katana to help the group out in some ruins near Hammerhead. Next, don’t forget about Gladiolus’s little sister, Iris Amicitia. Iris’s actions helped Gladiolus and Noctis first meet, and, though she isn’t much for combat, she’ll fight with her fists or her Moogle. Last, but certainly not least, is Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, a former princess of Tenebrae with oracular powers and the betrothed of Noctis. One of the main heroines of the story, it’s been hinted that Luna will not so much join up with the party as the player will join up with her.
