Uncharted

Remember when Naughty Dog said it was totally, never, ever going to make another Uncharted game after Uncharted 4? Well, this week marks the launch of Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Okay, so technically The Lost Legacy started out as single-player DLC for Uncharted 4 before it expanded so much to earn a standalone release and a marketing push that repeatedly called it a full game. And technically Uncharted 4 marked the end of Nathan Drake’s story. But it’s still plenty of evidence that it’s hard to keep a massively successful game series down for long. After all, Naughty Dog also said it was skeptical it’d ever make a sequel to The Last of Us, and look what happened there

Read on to get the lowdown on all the new releases, including our picks for the most exciting games out this week. And if you’re wondering about future release dates, check out EGM’s full list of gaming release dates in 2017 and beyond, updated regularly as new dates are announced.

EGM’s top picks for this week:

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (August 22nd)

Available for: PS4
Publisher: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Developer: Naughty Dog

Why we’re excited: The Lost Legacy isn’t just more Uncharted. Given that Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross have taken over as co-stars, it’s also an attempt to prove that the series’ universe is big enough to support stories beyond those starring Nathan Drake. In other words, if this goes well, we could be getting a lot more phenomenal Uncharted games for a long time to come. The early buzz: The game’s currently sitting at an 85 out of 100 average on Metacritic, and EGM’s Nick Plessas gave it an 8.5 out of 10 in his review. Ladies’ night: To count down to the midnight launch of the game, Naughty Dog had Claudia Black and Laura Bailey—the voices of Chloe and Nadine, respectively—play through the game on Twitch. If you’re reading this, you’ve already missed it live, but you can still catch the replay.

Madden NFL 18 (August 25th)

Available for: PS4, Xbox One
Publisher: EA Sports
Developer: EA Tiburon

Why we’re excited: This is the first time in years that Madden has actually had an honest-to-goodness selling point. Sure, they might tweak one or two features here or there or add a new mode, but it’s always felt like fiddling with the design knobs and slight technical upgrades. This year, though? New engine. New story mode, Longshot, that actually looks like compelling sports drama with serious actors involved. The early buzz: PlayStation 4 at 82, Xbox One at 80. EGM’s Ray Carsillo was a little more down on the game than most, handing down a 7.0 in his review. The Brady Bunch: While the game technically isn’t out until August 25th, those who bought the special
G.O.A.T. Edition can start playing three days earlier on August 22nd. Of course, they also have to tacitly agree Tom Brady is the greatest quarterback of all time, so it’s a real trade-off.

Duck Game (August 22nd)

Available for: PS4, Xbox One
Publisher: Adult Swim Games
Developer: Landon Podbielski

Why we’re excited: Duck Game has proven to be a surprisingly huge hit on PC, but its over-the-top multiplayer seems like it would be a great fit for consoles. Basically, imagine something vaguely like Super Smash Bros. but with a whole lot more guns and ducks, and you’re in the right neighborhood. The early buzz: No reviews have gone live for the console version yet, but the PC version has an 82 on Metacritic and 96 percent positive reviews on Steam. So it’s pretty good. Duck it: There’s a lot more weirdness from the game’s creator, Landon Podbielski, to be found on his official website. Take a look.
