Oh man, we know we have to write about Star Wars Battlefront II here, since it’s hands-down the biggest game coming out this week. But we sure don’t know how to write about the game without pointing out the recent unpleasantness between the game’s publisher, EA, and the large community of gamers that think they shouldn’t have to spend a ton of extra money if they want to stay competitive in multiplayer or try out content that’s already in the game without putting in a full work week of gameplay to get there. So we’re just going to embrace the controversy and say this: Star Wars Battlefront II has good graphics.

Read on to get the lowdown on all the new releases, including our picks for the most exciting games out this week. And if you’re wondering about future release dates, check out EGM’s full list of gaming release dates in 2017 and beyond, updated regularly as new dates are announced.

Star Wars Battlefront II (November 17th, November 14th for Elite Trooper Deluxe Edition)

Available for: PS4, Xbox One, PC
Publisher: EA
Developer: DICE, Motive Studios, Criterion Games

Why we’re excited: The single-player campaign looks neat, and we have to admit the idea of new levels arriving after launch free of charge is a good one. Plus, this may be the game that kicks off an honest discussion about aggressive monetization practices in triple-A games, which could be healthy for the industry.
The early buzz: We could tell you Nick gave it a 7.0 in his review, that the Metacritic averages are pretty okay, with 79 on PS4, 74 on Xbox One, and 79 on PC, but we both know the real early buzz surrounding this game is that it’s one of the four horsemen of the greedpocalypse.
SECTION LOCKED: We wrote a really great joke for this final slot, but if you want to see it you’ll need to Venmo us $30 or leave this window open for 10 hours. We really want you to have a sense of pride and accomplishment when you finally get to read it.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon (November XXxx)

Available for: 3DS
Publisher: The Pokémon Company, Nintendo
Developer: GameFreak

Why we’re excited: Sun and Moon were predictably solid Pokémon games, and these remixed versions add a bunch of new content to explore. What’s not to like?
The early buzz: Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are both at an 87 out of 100 average on Metacritic. Emma gave the games an 8.0 out of 10 in her EGM review.
Pika-no: Okay, so this is only tangentially related to the new games, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t point out the worst thing to happen to Pokémon in recent memory: Pikachu speaking English in the climax of the new movie.

Injustice 2 (November 14th)

Available for: PC
Publisher: Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
Developer: NetherRealm Studios, QLOC

Why we’re excited: Well, given that this is just the PC port, we already know Injustice 2 is a great fighting game. Now we can just play it on a new platform with even prettier graphics. Pretty safe bet, if you ask us.
The early buzz: No Metacritic reviews are in for the PC version yet, but given that the user score sits at a perfect 10 at time of writing, it’s probably safe to say that QLOC didn’t botch the port at all. The Metacritic averages for both console are in the high 80s, and Ray gave it a 9.0 in his EGM review.
DLC in the half-shell: While you’ll still have to shell out extra cash to get all of Injustice 2‘s DLC fighters, at least you know what you’re getting when you pick up the season pass. The full roster of add-on characters has now been revealed, including the surprising addition of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Cowabunga, indeed.
