IDW Publishing have announced that John Layman, who is the writer and co-creator of the comic “Chew,” will pen a new comic series based on the same “Mars Attacks” trading cards that inspired Tim Burton’s 1996 comic sci-fi movie of the same name.
The series will launch in June with artist John McCrea (“Hitman”) proving the visuals. IDW also announced that alternate versions of the covers were being done by Sam Keith (“The Maxx”), “Ben Templesmith (“30 Days Of Night”), and Eric Powell (“The Goon”).
The original “Mars Attacks” actually date back to 1962, when they were first published by Topps, making 2012 its 50th anniversary. Along with this new comic book, there are other celebrations coming this year, including reprints of original materials.
To promote the series, IDW has set up a Mars Attacks page on Facebook, which you can visit here http://www.facebook.com/MarsAttacks.
