The British Invasion
BBC Home Video have announced their January slate of DVD and Blu-ray releases, and the offerings include a pair of classic British sci-fi.
The company will kick off the new year on January 8 with Red Dwarf X, the tenth season of the classic sci-fi show, which aired in England this past October and November. Along with the six episodes, the collection will also include commentaries, deleted scenes, outtakes, and a new making-of documentary. The DVD will retail for $34.98 while the Blu-ray will be $39.98.
That same days sees the release of Doctor Who: Shada, an infamous installment of the sci-fi show that was never completed, and thus never aired, due to a strike at the BBC. Besides the available episodes, which feature Doctor #4, Tom Baker, filling in the gaps with narration, the disc will include an anniversary special from 1993 called “More Than 30 Years In The T.A.R.D.I.S.,” a making of featurette called “Taken Out Of Time,” and another featurette called “Remembering Nicholas Courtney.” Available on DVD, this three-disc set will retail for $39.98.
For those looking more for comedy than sci-fi, January 8 also sees the release of An Idiot Abroad 2: The Bucket List, the reality show from Ricky Gervais. That DVD will retail for $34.98.
