Criterion has announced that a special edition DVD and Blu-ray of David Fincher’s 1997 thriller The Game — which stars Michael Douglas and Sean Penn — will be released on September 25.
Along with the film, which has been digitally remastered, the collection will include both the original theatrical 5.1 surround sound mix as well as an alternate 5.1 surround sound mix optimized for home theaters. It will also feature a commentary that features Fincher, Douglas, director of photography Harris Savides, screenwriters John Brancato and Michael Ferris, production designer Jeffrey Beecroft, visual effects supervisor Kevin Haug, digital animation supervisor Richard “Dr.” Baily , and visual effects producer Robyn D’Arcy.
The collection will also include an alternate ending, behind-the-scenes footage, the original trailers with optional commentary, an essay by film critic David Sterritt, and film-to-storyboard comparisons for four of the bigger set pieces, with each getting their own commentary tracks as well.
The two-disc DVD collection will retail for $29.95 while the single-disc Blu-ray will be $39.95.
