The Zappa Family Trust and Universal Music have announced that the first dozen Frank Zappa albums — including 1967’s Lumpy Gravy, 1968’s We’re Only It In It For The Money, and 1970’s Weasels Ripped My Flesh — will be reissued on July 31.
Also being reissued are his 1966 debut Freak Out!, 1967’s Absolutely Free, 1968’s Cruising With Ruben & The Jets, 1969’s Uncle Meat, 1969’s Hot Rats, 1970’s Burnt Weeny Sandwich, 1970’s Chunga’s Revenge, the live album Fillmore East, June 1971, and 1972’s Just Another Band From L.A. Though, oddly, the 1971 soundtrack album 200 Motels is not including in this round of reissues.
Universal will then reissue another dozen albums every month through the end of the year.
The reissue series comes on the heels of news that the Zappa Family Trust had recently regained the right to Zappa’s catalog.
