My Sweet Lord
Classic Rock Magazine have announced that a special issue — which features Metallica, Carlos Santana, Iron Maiden, and The Flaming Lips, and others on a Deep Purple tribute album — will be released on September 4.
Dubbed Re-Machined: A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head, the album will feature covers of every song from that classic 1972.
The album will include new covers of “Highway Star” by Chickenfoot, “Space Truckin” from Iron Maiden, and “Smoke On The Water” done by both The Flaming Lips and by Carlos Santana with Pap Roach vocalist Jacoby Shaddix.
It will also include Metallica’s version of “When A Blind Man Cries,” an outtake from the Machine Head sessions that was released in 1997, as well as “Pictures Of Home” by Black Label Society.
Chickenfoot’s drummer Chad Smith, who also plays with The Red Hot Chili Peppers, will also appear on two other tracks: “Maybe I’m A Leo” with singer Glenn Hughes, who was in a version of Purple, but not the one that recorded Machine Head, and a second version of “Highway Star” that features Hughes and Smith’s Chickenfoot bandmate Steve Vai.
As for the magazine, it will feature interviews with members of Metallica, Chickenfoot, and Iron Maiden, as well as Deep Purple, including one of the last interviews with their keyboardist, Jon Lord, who recently passed away.
The magazine and CD can be pre-ordered HERE.
