Metallica’s Kirk Hammett and Abrams Image have announced plans to publish an art book chronicling the guitarist’s extensive horror memorabilia collection this October.
Dubbed Too Much Horror Business: The Kirk Hammett Collection, the 228 hardcover art book will feature over 300 images, many of which will be annotated by captions written by Hammett. The book will also feature an extensive interview with Hammett.
In the press release announcing the book, Hammett declared, “This is my gift to all the other horror nerds out there who are just like me. It’s been made with great love for all the many characters and movies which guided me through childhood, into adulthood and which still keep me on track today.”
A preview of the book will be available at the Orion Music + More festival that Metallica are holding June 23-24 at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Besides Hammett’s band — who’ll be performing both their 1984 album Ride The Lightning and their 1991 “Black Album” in their entirety — the Orion shows will also feature Avenged Sevenfold, Arctic Monkeys, Suicidal Tendencies, Modest Mouse, Cage The Elephant, Sepultura, and dozens of other bands. More info about it can be found at http://www.orionmusicandmore.com/
In addition to the book, Hammett has also launched a new toy and collectible line called Kirk Von Hammett (http://www.kvhtoys.com). Along with t-shirts, the company will issue a line of limited edition toys, starting in October.
Said Hammett of K.V.H., “I’ve spent my life collecting toys, so what could be more fun than making a series of toys which indulge my childhood fantasies and which people can collect! It’s more about fulfilling a huge ambition than anything else, and I hope I get the first one!”
