Shaquille O’Neal Battles Hordes of Zombies in Shaq Down

Apparently Shaquille O’Neal is returning to videogames on mobile devices—and soon. Real soon.

According to Shaqdown.com, the game launches on iOS and Android devices Tuesday, January 8. The developer, Hiptic Gamesis real, and has previously made a mobile game—Go Ninja. So no, this is not an elaborate hoax. I hope.

I assume Shaq, as an entity, still transcends sports—that he’s still deeply enmeshed in American culture in general. I didn’t follow sports as a kid (well, hockey), but was acutely aware of who Shaquille O’Neal was—enough to get a kick out of his first foray into videogames, Shaq Fu, which came out for SNES and Genesis back in ’94. It pleases me something fierce that a whole new generation of gamers will get their own bizarre Shaquille O’Neal videogame.
