THE BUZZ: USAOPOLY and Blizzard have announced that they’ll release a “World Of Warcraft” version of “Monopoly” and a “Starcraft” version of “Risk.”
“World Of Warcraft: Monopoly” will be unveiled at the next Toy Fair in New York City. It will include Warcraft towns as houses and Warcraft cities as hotels, as well as red and blue dice to represent The Horde and The Alliance. It will be available for $39.95.
“Risk: Starcraft” will pit the Terrans, Protoss, and Zerg factions against each other, and will have over 290 custom playing pieces. It will retail for $49.45 and is expected to be released this summer.
EGM’S TAKE: Though not a fan of them myself, I used to love board games and know plenty of people who are still into them. And if there had been a version of “Monopoly” or “Risk” based on a game or a movie or a rock band I liked back then, I would’ve been all over it. Whether these versions of “Monopoly” and “Risk” can tear anyone away from playing the real versions of “World Of Warcraft” and “Starcraft,” though, remains to be seen.
