1001 Spikes, an 8-bit throwback platformer from Cave Story developer Nicalis, will arrive on PS4, Vita, and Steam on June 3, the developer announced today.

The 2D retro-tastic platformer sees players wearing the hat of one Aban Hawkins, an explorer on the search for his M.I.A. archaeologist father. This quest puts Hawkins in the pits of ancient temples and all their varied, spike-filled traps. 1001 Spikes also features up to four-player co-op and versus modes.

On Vita and PS4, Nicalis’ latest will cost $14.99. On Steam, however, anyone who already purchased either Cave Story or Night Sky can grab 1001 Spikes for just $5 (it’s otherwise, $14.99, in case that’s not clear).

1001 Spikes is also come to 3DS, Wii U, and Xbox One, though Nicalis has yet to provide a release window for those versions—assuring only that they’ll come shortly after the Steam and PlayStation launches.
