Tucked into a holiday message from Uncharted and The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog on the PlayStation Blog is a cryptic message teasing big things for the studio in 2014.

“2014 marks a very special time in Naughty Dog’s history — we’ll have more information about what that means early next year,” the post concludes.

As far as hype-building statements goes, that might just be one of the vaguest we’ve ever seen. “A very special time” could mean anything from release dates we already expect–Uncharted on PS4 and The Last of UsLeft Behind story DLC will likely both hit in 2014–to something much more dramatic, like a second studio under the Naughty Dog banner.

If we’re getting truly crazy, maybe they did buy the rights to Crash Bandicoot back from Activision. Maybe they’re making a new Jak & Daxter game. Maybe they’re making a Last of Us sequel. Maybe they’re making all of those things as a single game, in which Joel must team up with Crash and Jak to save Ellie from a fungus-infected Neo Cortex. Eh, probably not that.

Regardless, you can look forward to some sort of announcement from Naughty Dog early next year. Try not to strain your speculation muscles until then.
