20th Century Fox planning Magic: The Gathering film series

Posted on January 14, 2014 AT 04:04am

Wizards of the Coast’s popular trading card game Magic: The Gathering is set to get a live-action film adaptation thanks to 20th Century Fox.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox recently completed a deal to acquire the film rights to Magic from Hasbro, with the aim of turning it into a film series. Fox writer and producer Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, Jumper, X-Men: The Last Stand) has been attached to the project and will work with Hasbro executives to oversee production.

Wizards of the Coast president Greg Leeds and Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner will be involved in “production capacities.”

Magic: The Gathering’s first video game adaptation, Magic: The Gathering Online, released in June 20012 for PC. The latest release, Magic 2014, is currently available on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Android, and iOS.
