Mass Effect 3

FUNimation has let loose upon the internet a new nine-minute teaser for their upcoming release Mass Effect: Paragon Lost—an anime movie based around BioWare’s Mass Effect universe.

Here’s a basic rundown of the events of Paragon Lost, straight from FUNimation:

“Mass Effect: Paragon Lost is the prequel to the highly-anticipated Mass Effect 3 and follows the early career of Alliance Marine, James Vega (Freddie Prinze, Jr.). Vega leads an elite Special Forces squad into battle against a mysterious alien threat known as The Collectors. Stationed at a colony in a remote star system, Vega and his soldiers must protect the civilians from a ruthless invasion determined to capture the population for unknown purposes.”

I’ve got to say, I’m a little mixed on this clip. While the movie is being put together by Production I.G—responsible for work such as the anime of portion of Kill Bill Vol. 1, Ghost in the Shell, and BLOOD-C The Last Dark, what’s presented here doesn’t feel like their best effort. Also, basing a Mass Effect anime around James Vega is the best way to make sure my interest in it is as low as possible. Vega, really? Ugh.
