A Few New Details On Upcoming Battlefield 3 Patches

Posted on November 17, 2011 AT 04:50pm

THE BUZZ: In an interview this week, DICE CEO Karl Magnus Troedsson gives a few quick details on upcoming fixes coming to the recently-released Battlefield 3.

Speaking to GameSpy, Troedsson was asked about how it seems like a most of DICE’s post-launch support has gone to consoles, and if the PC version would be getting any love in the near future.

“We have been providing support to Battlelog and our back end servers which directly benefit all players, including those on the PC. We are also working with partners at AMD and Nvidia, both of which have released drivers for PC players which have substantial Battlefield 3 specific improvements. Additional support is in the works, and while we are aware no fix can come fast enough our dedicated team is working around the clock and around the world to make Battlefield 3 the biggest and smoothest launch. As I write this, for example, we are just getting ready to roll out quite a hefty update for PC players, with consoles to follow.”

Troedsson was then asked about a few elements of specific feedback players have been giving since the game’s release. For example, GameSpy asked about the Commo Rose and chat window, which the site claims felt like last-minute additions. In response to this, Troedsson said that a number of aspects of the game are being looked at, including the user interface.

He was then also asked about the IRNV scope, which some players are claiming is overpowered—Troedsson confirmed that it has been looked at and tweaked.

Based on player feedback, we have made some tweaks to the IRNV scope to make it more balanced with the rest of the accessories in the game. The change is planned to go into a future update of Battlefield 3, and we will have more details on this update at a later date.

EGM’s TAKE: For good or bad, post-launch tweaks needed for games heavily based around multiplayer will always be a part of gaming. When a game’s staff is testing a game, you have a small group of people with a set selection of gameplay styles. Once the game gets out into the hands of the public and millions are playing it, countless flaws that could never have been imagined before may suddenly show up.

The important part is what DICE is doing to fix those issues, and how multiplayer is being tweaked from player feedback.

Are you happy so far with the fixes that DICE are making to Battlefield 3? And do you have any opinions specifically on the IRNV scope? Have your say in the comments below!
