A Japanese gaming website polled its users to see which of the new Pokémon starters players want to start Pokémon Sword and Shield with, and it turns out that almost nobody likes Grookey.
Choice of starter is always a big point of discussion whenever a new Pokémon game is announced, with players claiming their favorites early on and planning out their teams as more and more Pokémon are revealed. Usually, there’s a pretty even split between starters, with some going for the cooler-looking ones, some for the cuter ones, and some choosing strategically to get a type advantage against early gyms.
According to the poll conducted by Inside Games, though, one Pokémon has taken a lead in popularity. Sad-looking water lizard Sobble has captured the hearts of 46.3 percent of the audience polled. The quick-moving fire rabbit Scorbunny grabbed a respectable 34.4 percent of the votes. Trailing behind in last place, however, is the grass monkey Grookey, who just 18.8 percent of the audience found room to love.
Obviously, this sample size is limited to the audience who responded to Inside Games‘s poll, so it’s not indicative of the audience at large. We’ll have to see if Grookey still draws the short end of the stick when the games release in full later this year. The games will release exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
