A Monster Hunter game is coming to the Switch, but it's not the game you're thinking of

Nintendo Switch fans are finally getting a Monster Hunter game, but it’s not the one everybody was hoping for.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, an update to the 3DS game Monster Hunter Generations, will launch on the Nintendo Switch on August 28th. Coming from the 3DS, it’s a very different game from the recently popular Monster Hunter: World, which was designed with more heavy-hitting consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in mind, not portable systems like the Switch.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate allows for both local wireless and online multiplayer, so you can play with friends whether your Switch is docked at home or if you’re on the go. Players who have already sunk a lot of time into the 3DS version of the game will be able to transfer their save data over to the Nintendo Switch.

A new trailer released on Nintendo’s YouTube channel shows off what some of the Switch’s gameplay will look like, including the different fighting styles available in the game.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate will be available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch on August 28th, 2018.
