Dead or Alive

Koei Tecmo has officially pulled back the curtain on its next new fighting game: Dead or Alive 6.

As the company unveiled today (via IGN), the latest installment in the Dead or Alive series is in development for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Fans will see the return of favorite characters like Kasumi, Hayati, Hayabusa, Helena, Jann Lee, and Zack, as well as several new stars.

Dead or Alive 6 has a new engine, and as Koei Tecmo’s new trailer shows, it allows for more dynamic facial expressions and more small details, like the bruises, scrapes, and sweat that now appear over the course of a fight. The new engine also allows for 4K graphics and a greatly improved lighting system.

According to IGN, Dead or Alive 6 will keep its core gameplay the same, but will introduce a few new systems to welcome beginners to the series. Fatal Rush and Break Gauge, a new combo and special attack system, are powerful attacks that “use simple commands to allow new players to experience the thrill of fighting games without too much practice.” However, more experienced players should find more strategy in knowing exactly when to pull off such attacks, relying more on pulling them off with expert timing than simply using them for a power boost.

Dead or Alive 6 is expected to release in early 2019.
