Nintendo Switch

During Nintendo’s January 11th “mini” Direct presentation, Square Enix fans were given a treat. An HD remastered version of the action role-playing game The World Ends With You will officially be arriving on the Nintendo Switch later this year.

The upcoming Switch version, titled The World Ends With You: Final Remix, will feature Joy-Con, touchscreen support in battle, and new story content, as seen in the announcement trailer below.

Apart from being on a new console, Final Remix will also include a brand new epilogue for a “sizable new scenario.” While details on how the Joy-Con and touchscreen system will work on the Switch weren’t given, players will be able to experience the game’s rhythm battles using either mechanic.

The original game launched for the Nintendo DS 10 years ago, with a port for iOS devices in 2012. The most recent appearance of the characters was in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream, Drop, Distance for the Nintendo 3DS in 2012. For years fans of the JRPG have been begging for a sequel, so while this isn’t a new entry in the series, it’s likely that Square Enix and Nintendo could finally expand the universe if Final Remix sells well.

Nintendo also announced several other exciting new games and DLC are coming to the Switch this year, including a new Mario Tennis game, Dark Souls remastered, and a new mode in Super Mario Odyssey.

The World Ends With You: Final Remix is set to launch in 2018.
