Activision has acquired the publishing license for videogames based on Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants, the company announced today.
The SpongeBob SquarePants license was previously in THQ’s possession, but went up for grabs in the wake of THQ’s bankruptcy and the sale of their various properties.
Activision’s deal with Nickelodeon grants them multi-year developing and publishing rights for SpongeBob games, starting with SpongeBob SquarePants: Plankton’s Robotic Revenge.
Plankton’s Robotic Revenge is being developed by Naughty Bear developer Behaviour Interactive. The game—which will be a third-person co-op title featuring exploration and puzzle-solving—launches on PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and DS October 22.
