THE BUZZ: Indie game developers everywhere, take note—the Activision Independent Games Competition has now begun.
Running until December 31st, the competition—to by administered by IndieCade—will see Activision offer up cash awards for studios or individual who present their game concepts, titles in development, or completed works. The first-place winner will receive $175,000, and second place will net $75,000.
“This competition underscores Activision’s commitment to fostering creativity in the independent development community,” Dave Stohl, Executive Vice President of Studios, Activision, said. “Many of us began our careers as indies, so we are very proud to offer this kind of support and encouragement to a couple of the industry’s young visionaries.”
Ownership rights for all submissions will be retained by their respective creators. For official rules and submission instructions, hit the link below.
EGM’s TAKE: As a big fan of indie game development and those who make said games, I’m always happy to see more of this kind of stuff happen. That money could mean the difference between a great game idea getting a chance and being developed, or always existing as nothing more than an idea.
