Pokémon fans in North America that are in the market for a Nintendo 2DS XL system are in luck. The company has announced the latest version of the New Nintendo 2DS XL, the Pikachu Edition, will be arriving on January 26th in North America and Europe.
Nintendo of America revealed the product’s launch date on Twitter, sharing three images of the Pikachu console, seen below. The outside top shell of the 2DS features a close-up of Pikachu’s cute face, while the interior is an “eye-catching yellow” to honor the creature’s iconic color.

While the Pikachu Edition has been available in Japan since November 2017, Europe was the only other region confirmed to receive the boldly designed system. Since the 2DS XL first launched in July 2017, there have been a few other special editions made, including a Dragon Quest model in Japan and Poké Ball version.
Like all versions of the New Nintendo 2DS XL, the system will include amiibo support, the added C-stick for enhanced controls, and two bonus trigger buttons. However, the system does not support 3D gameplay and face-tracking, which can still only be found in 3DS models.
Pikachu has also been at the center of a few recent announcements, both in gaming and outside. The first live-action Pokémon movie, Detective Pikachu, is set to arrive on May 10, 2019, with actor Ryan Reynolds voicing the titular character. The video game the film is based on, originally released in Japan, will also be making its way to Western players later this year.
