THE BUZZ: Earlier today, we talked about how a representative from Sony Spain confirmed that Uncharted 3 would require a valid PSN Pass in order to access the game’s online multiplayer.

(PSN Pass is Sony’s version of online voucher codes, where a downloadable access key is require to play a game online. PSN Pass voucher codes come with every new copy of the game, but those purchasing the game used will have to spend an additional fee to get their own PSN Pass code for the game.)

Following that news, a representative from Sony Computer Entertainment America today told Destructoid that all of Sony’s upcoming games that feature online aspect will be tied to PSN Pass. So, like the idea or not, it’s something that’s going to always be there going forward.

EGM’s TAKE: I’ve been a critic of some of the attempts game publishers and developers have taken to help curb used game sales, as some of those efforts have ended up doing more to punish the legitimate game purchasers than those who are buying the games used.

In the situation of things like PSN Pass, however, it’s hard for me to get too upset. Yes, it can still cause problems to crop up—what if I own a game, and want to take it to a friend’s house to play online? For the most part, though, this is one of the less obnoxious ways that companies have to help entice more people to buy a game new (or make at least some amount of money off of used game sales).
