Lightbox Interactive has announced that all DLC maps released for Starhawk will be completely free.
“Whenever we release a map pack you won’t have to pay a friggin’ dime,” confirmed studio president Dylan Jobe. Apparently the reason for this decision was the fracturing the community suffered in Warhawk when the DLC was paid.
“We really didn’t like how in Warhawk when we released a new map pack, it forced these divisions on our players,” explained Jobe. “And after we released three expansions, our player community was pretty fractured.”
Jobe also released the above picture teasing the first DLC map pack for the game. ”A lush, swampy world that’s home to an abandoned research facility that many years ago was responsible for researching the mysteries of Rift Energy.”
This shows a real care for the community on Lightbox’s part, they are sacrificing profits to ensure that everyone remains on a level playing field. If only more developers could take this stand. It may also help to sell a few more copies, if players know that plenty of free content is going to be coming down the line.
