THE BUZZ: The Amazing Spider-Man’s Lead Game Designer has shared a few gameplay details.

First he confirmed that the game will be set in an open-world and players can go where ever they like: “Our game brings back free-roaming in Manhattan, where you guys will be able to swing around and discover a variety of side missions, challenges and mini-games in addition to the main storyline.”

When asked if Spidey would have any new abilities at his disposal, he explained the “Web Rush” mechanic: “We introduce an all-new gameplay mechanic called the Web Rush, which gives players real-time navigational and combat choices. Web Rush can be triggered on the fly, at any moment, and immediately presents you with a variety of situational choices, letting you pull off Spidey’s signature moves like never before.”

EGM’s TAKE: Beenox appears to have listened to the cries of Spider-Man fans and finally returned ol’ Webby to the streets (of Manhattan). There’s no fun in being able to shoot web from your wrists if you can’t go swinging around sky scrapers when you please, it’s what made some of the older games great. The Web Rush feature sounds more like a set piece mechanic than anything else. It appears that when activated you are presented with choices and these lead to certain moves being pulled off. Hopefully it won’t take too much of the action out of player’s hands. Not much has been shown of the game as a whole, but what has been seems to show a real commitment to not making this just another movie cash-in.
