Developer Rovio Entertainment has released the first gameplay trailer for Angry Birds Go, a kart racer spinoff of the wildly popular mobile puzzle game franchise.

Go is described as “a downhill racing game” that takes place on a 3D Piggy Island. As shown in the video (embedded below), players will be able to upgrade karts to increase performance. There will also be special powers in the same vein as the offensive/defensive items from Mario Kart.

The Angry Birds–themed downhill racer will also interact with Angry Birds Go Telepods figures in a fashion not dissimilar to something like Skylanders or Disney Infinity. Telepod toys can be placed on a mobile device’s camera to gain access to an exclusive driver, which be swapped in at the start of a race.

Angry Birds Go launches on iOS and Android devices, Windows Phone 8 and BlackBerry 10 on December 11.
