Injustice

The next playable character to be shown for Injustice 2 is Batman’s trusty sidekick, Robin.

Robin, specifically the Damian Wayne incarnation, made his gameplay debut on Netherrealm’s most recent Watchtower livestream on Twitch, with a new trailer showing off his sword and subterfuge focused fighting style. The trailer hasn’t yet been uploaded to YouTube, but you can watch it in the archive of the earlier Twitch stream. (That link is set to go straight to the start time, but if it doesn’t work, the trailer kicks off just before the 22 minute mark.)

Update: Robin’s gameplay trailer is now up on YouTube. Take a look.

Injustice fans may be surprised to see Damian donning the Robin outfit, given the fact that he appeared in the first game as Nightwing, but the trailer does offer some story justification for why he switched back to his old persona. Apparently the return is a symbolic part of his attempt to gain some form of retribution for his previous actions, but Batman doesn’t appear to be ready to forgive, what with all the punching.

Robin previously appeared—and technically made his debut—in the recent story trailer for the game, but at the time it was uncertain whether he’d be a playable character or merely a part of the story through flashbacks, specifically because Damian had already left the Robin alter ego behind in the lore of the game. Now we know for sure he’s on the roster, and he looks like a ferocious addition.

No word yet on when the next character will be revealed, but Netherrealm said on the livestream that another broadcast will be coming in the near future, possibly as soon as two weeks from now.

The other big Injustice 2 news of the day was the surprise launch of the beta, but not everyone will be getting in right away.

Injustice 2 launches May 16th on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
