No, we’re still not at a point where we know the identity of Ultra Street Fighter IV‘s mysterious fifth roster addition. However, there may now be another clue out there about who she is (or isn’t).

According to a source that contacted Siliconera, the female fighter—or, at least, assuming she’s a fighter—has some tie to the Street Fighter comics. So, to recap, we know she’s a she, she’s a Capcom-owned character, she’s never been playable in a fighting game before, and she’s—if this new bit of information is correct—appeared in the pages of a Street Fighter comic before.

Now, last time we had this conversation, here’s what I had to say:

Now, you’d normally expect that I’d be excited about the mystery character being female, but my brain is telling me to temper any such excitement lest I be sorely disappointed. Some around the internet are speculating that the character will be Decapre, one of the Bison Dolls (clones like Cammy) who wears a mask and fights with claws. Take the Cammy character model, change her up a bit, give her two of Vega’s claws, and you’d be halfway there. And that’s my concern: that an option like that would be the easiest route to take, and thus that’ll be the route taken. Plus, you know, given that we know the character won’t have appeared in a previous game, that negates the choice I’d most love to see—Karin. I will happily admit that I was wrong if, when the character is finally revealed, we get someone who is totally original and exciting. Until that happens, I’m not getting my hopes up.

So, what about the idea that this could be Decapre? I’m glad you asked!

There’s Decapre from the UDON Street Fighter comics. Thus, as of now, this still seems like a pretty solid theory! Of course, that’s not to say that it has to be Decapre. Over on NeoGAF, a few other potential picks were offered up, such as Gouken’s daughter (who has appeared in a Japanese Street Fighter manga), or Sarai Kurosawa, Ibuki’s best friend.

Let me, at this point, reiterate again: if the answer is Decapre, I’m going to be disappointed—and I know I won’t be the only one. Ultra Street Fighter IV was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con back in July of last year, meaning we’ve had almost six months of mystery over who this fifth and final character is. If she’s really just a reworked and reskinned Cammy, that’s a lot of hype and speculation built up over a rather un-exciting choice.

Come on Ono-san! Show me that all of these months of wondering and waiting were worth it! But, even if it is Decapre, I can’t feel too bad—no matter what, I’m still getting Poison.

(And no, the image in the header isn’t a tease of who the character is in case there’s any misunderstanding. That’s just Elena in one of her DLC outfits.)
