Speaking to tech news website Boy Genius Report, a source of the site has confirmed to them that the current plans within Microsoft are to unveil their next Xbox console at E3 2012.

While their source is not fully away of the launch plans for the new system, they did say that the console has been in development since 2006.

This report adds to the growing list of secret sources that have come out in past weeks to say a similar thing.

Of course, even if the next Xbox is revealed next year, that doesn’t mean it’ll be released in 2012. The current rumors are that it could be hitting in 2013 or 2014. With the Wii U set to hit next year, Sony and Microsoft may reveal their next consoles a little early, in hopes that they can convince consumers to save their money for one of those systems instead (much like Sony did by showing off the PS2 to combat the Dreamcast).
