A massive gameplay demo of Bioware’s Anthem gives a new perspective of the action players can expect early next year, including a boss fight we had yet to see.
The demo follows the same beats as the game’s EA Play 2018 demo, but narration from lead producer Ben Irving expands upon everything we saw from the show. Irving takes us through one of the game’s Stronghold missions while answering a wide variety of questions fans have had about the game since its initial reveal. During the mission, we learn that players of any level can team up in a four-player squad, how player combos work when syncing up the abilities of different Javelins, and more. The demo also shows players fighting the Swarm Tyrant boss, which is a boss fight that was cut short in the EA Play demo.
Many other details have surfaced about Anthem since it took to the stage at EA Play 2018, such as the fact that gear drop level will be based on the level of a player’s Freelancer (character), and not the Javelin mech suit they’re driving at the time. This will allow players to switch between the four Javelin types without having to worry about certain mechs getting left behind. We also learned a bit about features the game won’t have, including PvP and romance options.
Anthem is slated to launch February 22nd on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. EA/Origin Access members will get to enjoy a trial of the game early on February 15th, while those subscribed to the newly announced Origins Access Prime tier can enjoy the full game on that date.
