Anthem got a famous director to head a short film teasing the game’s world, but everyone eventually decided it was more trailer than short film.
The feature, titled Conviction, comes to us from District 9 director Neil Blomkamp and is now free to check out online. The production quality is quite high, and the story it depicts is pretty epic, giving a good sense of the action and drama that awaits us in the game, but the entire “film” doesn’t even hit the four minute mark.
“Conviction sets the stage with a narrative that touches on Anthem’s beautiful and immersive world, which is ripe for exploration by these powerful Javelins,” Blomkamp said. “A world where danger is lurking on every ledge and in each valley.”
Despite EA originally describing it as a short film, Conviction‘s brevity and the manner in which it’s edited gives an impression more of a trailer, which caused the publisher to rebrand it. An actual short film version could still come, based on a recent Twitter tease by Blomkamp.
I guess if audiences like it https://t.co/wu7DoyU0FI

Anthem launches February 22nd on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, although it does supports some early access opportunities. The game’s trophy/achievement list was revealed ahead of its launch, hinting at what seems like fairly easy full completion.
