Titanfall

Reports have emerged that point to Apex Legends‘ next hero character launching next week alongside the game’s highly anticipated first Battle Pass.

The first new character to join Respawn Entertainment’s battle royale will reportedly be Octane, who was previously unveiled in the game’s files alongside another character, Wattson. According to Daily Esports (via PC Gamer), Apex Legends‘ first battle pass will launch on March 12th, and Octane will be the “face” of the game’s first major update, meaning the character will probably debut alongside the Game Pass or slightly ahead of it.

An apparent leak of the character’s official artwork, seen in a photo taken of someone’s screen, seem to have emerged. A high-quality upload of the artwork has also emerged, which pretty much confirms the leak.

Data miner previously revealed that Octane will have Stim-related abilities similar to pilots in the Titanfall series. A reported leak on Reddit, which shows a 3D model of Octane, might have leaked the new Legend’s specific abilities. His passive ability is that he gradually regenerates health when not in combat while his tactical lets him move 30 percent faster for six seconds while costing 10 percent of his health. It’s Octane’s ultimate ability that should be a meme factory, however, as it drops a launch pad that will catapult users through the air. We can just imagine the Twitch clips of players flying off the map to their doom.

Respawn hasn’t confirmed Octane’s addition to the game, but the evidence definitely points to the Stim-inspired Legend being real. As fans previously pointed out, the game’s original reveal trailer showed silhouettes of the game’s first two new Legends, and one of them definitely looks like Octane. We actually haven’t seen the character’s legs yet, but it seems likely that he has the Stim pilot-style prosthetics that will let him run faster than normal players.

While Apex Legends has already attracted 50 million players on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC to try its unique take on the battle royale genre, its Battle Pass will be its first real financial test. Will the game’s popularity translate to sales? According to these rumors, we should have the answer to that question next week.
