Apple Reveals New iPhone: Taller Design, Bigger Screen, New A6 Chip
Posted on September 12, 2012 AT 02:35pm
Just a day ahead of Nintendo announcing the release date of their new console that totally doesn’t look like an Apple product, the new iPhone was revealed by, well, Apple themselves. How about that.
Honestly, the timing couldn’t be better for both companies and consumers at large. Not only are both devices going to be hot sellers this holiday season, but it gives both the tech and gaming industry some chatter.
Here’s a breakdown of the new iPhone, and what it brings to the table over last year’s iPhone design:
- Price — $199 (16GB), $299 (32GB), $399 (64GB)
- Weight — 3.9 oz
- Size — 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm
- Battery Life — 8-10 hours on 3G/LTE and Wi-Fi
- Processor — Apple A6
- Memory — 1GB
- Display — 1,136 x 640 resolution (4-inch)
- Storage — 16GB / 32GB / 64GB
- Video — 1080p at 30fps
In general, the new iPhone—available to purchase around the world on September 21st—is naturally slimmer, lighter, and more powerful than its predecessor.
As far as gaming capability goes, there’s nothing too major to analyze here aside from the now-standard Retina Display and A6 processor. Both things are going to be major selling points for iOS developers, especially since the “new” iPad is no longer running Apple’s top-of-the-line chipset.
