ArenaNet Suspends Guild Wars 2 Digital Sales in the U.S.

THE BUZZ: ArenaNet has suspended digital sales of its upcoming MMO Guild Wars 2, due to beta space.
People who purchase the game are granted access to all beta weekends, including the one starting today. In order to limit the number of keys made available, ArenaNet put a cap on how many copies could be sold, to protect their servers. This cap has now been reached.
“We limit sales to ensure we have enough capacity for our customers,” wrote community manager Regina Buenaobra on the Guild Wars 2 Facebook page. ”We’re likely to have capacity available after the initial crunch at the start of the weekend. Players who purchase when we’re able to resume digital sales at buy.guildwars2.com will still be able to play for the remainder of the weekend.”
EGM’s TAKE: There has been a massive rush on Guild Wars 2 sales since the game was made available earlier this month. The excitement is building and everybody wants to take part in this weekend’s beta test. The only issue is that ArenaNet’s servers can’t handle an infinite number of players during a beta, therefore limits had to be put in place. Once the initial excitement wears off fans will be able to pick up a copy fairly easily as ArenaNet promised to make more available. So if you’ve yet to make your purchase, don’t panic.
