THE BUZZ: Ubisoft has confirmed the existence of Assassin’s Creed 3 and even given it a release date.

The game will be coming out October 30, 2012 company head Yves Guillemot revealed in an Ubisoft financials call today. “Assassin’s Creed 3 is the true next generation of both the Assassin’s Creed brand and interactive entertainment/storytelling in general,” he said.

Guillemot went on to announce that Ubisoft would be investing more in Assassin’s Creed 3 than any other title in the franchise and the company hopes to surpass the 7 million sales achieved by Revelations. Apart from this no other details were offered about the game.

EGM’s TAKE: Well this was a bolt from the blue. Only yesterday Ubisoft was laughing off a potential release list naming Assassin’s Creed 3 for a 2012 release, and now it is officially being announced. Maybe there was a bit more truth to that list than the company is letting on?

We at least can piece together some parts of Assassin’s Creed 3’s story, thanks to various comments from Ubisoft employees over the last year. It has been mentioned that this will be the end of Desmond’s story, as the 2012 Doomsday is fast approaching. Ubisoft has also mentioned that after Ezio’s story was completed in Revelations a new assassin would take over, but who will it be? Could it be a woman? Sadly we’ll have to wait until Ubisoft decides to throw us another bone to find out.
