Assassin’s Creed 3 Naval Battles Only Last For Two In-Game Missions

Fans looking forward to spending hours braving the high seas in Assassin’s Creed III might walk away a bit disappointed by Ubisoft’s upcoming blockbuster action game. According to the developers, naval battles don’t make up a large portion of the overall adventure, with only two main missions and less than two hours of extra content.

According to The Verge, that was the rough estimate given by Ubisoft, who demonstrated several facets of the ship-to-ship combat during a Gamescom presentation.

Moreover, Ubisoft says that the naval battles don’t even factor into the game until you’re past the halfway point, which actually makes plenty of sense given how ACIII has to play by the history book.

Ubisoft’s take on the Battle of the Chesapeake, the same demo shown to us at a San Francisco press event, highlights a battle that occurred in 1781, just two years off from the official end of the American Revolutionary War. Hopefully, it’s not the last ship-to-ship combat in the game, as the last two years of the war had equally important naval skirmishes.

Maybe there’s a silver lining to all of this, though.

In our demo session, it took roughly 25 minutes to complete an at-sea mission, and the experience was frankly exhausting—two main missions and two hours of side-mission content might be just enough.
