Assassin’s Creed Odyssey has become the best-selling Assassin’s Creed game of this console generation, Ubisoft has revealed.
Earlier this week, sales weren’t looking so good, as Ubisoft only had the numbers from physical sales to go off of. In terms of physical copies, Odyssey sold 25 percent less than last year’s Origins in the U.K. (via Eurogamer). However, now that worldwide sales numbers—which, crucially, count digital sales—have been revealed, Odyssey is actually coming out on top.
Ubisoft has attributed the game’s success to more positive player feedback and high review scores. While the company didn’t give out solid numbers, the game has sold twice as fast as Syndicate sold over the same 10-day period.
“We are incredibly proud of what the team accomplished with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, and humbled by the amazing reception from critics and players,” said Ubisoft SVP of sales Geoffroy Sardin. “Based on the quality of the game and the very encouraging reactions from players, we expect Odyssey to be one of the top performing Assassin’s Creed games of all time.”
Ubisoft expects profits to continue to increase, since Odyssey released slightly earlier in the year relative to the holiday sales bump compared to past games. The team’s statement also mentioned “player recurring investment in value,” which likely refers to expected future profits from microtransactions.
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
