If you’re trying to get some more mileage out of your PlayStation Vita’s OLED screen, you can download the system’s official YouTube app today. Boasting a unique interface, the app also lets you watch videos with up to 720p resolution.

YouTube on PS Vita supports two different viewing modes, small screen and full screen, with the former using the touchscreen interface to navigate though videos.

Naturally, it doesn’t have the full functionality of YouTube on a proper browser (or even what you can get with the PS3’s Internet browser) but at a glance, it’s still got just enough functionality to compensate for what you might find on most phones. Here’s what Sony touts as the main features:

  • Recommended Videos: Displays videos recommended from YouTube
  • Search: Search for videos by typing a keyword
  • Viewing History : Displays the most recent videos you’ve viewed
  • Add to Favorites: Displays a list of videos you’ve added to your Favorites list. You must be signed into your account to add a video to your Favorites.

But the real question is, will this be your go-to mobile video viewer when your iPhone or Android device is out of power?

Of course, you can’t please everyone, as this update will probably just remind PS Vita owners that, unlike Xbox 360, there’s still no dedicated YouTube app for the PlayStation 3. One day, guys, one day.
