After previously announcing that From Software’s cult classic Demon’s Souls would finally be going offline at the end of this month, Atlus has now—to the delight of fans—reversed that decision.
“We’re incredibly excited to be able to announce that the Demon’s Souls online experience will persist for a while longer,” stated Tim Pivnicny, Vice President of Marketing and Sales as part of the announcement. “While it originally seemed as though it would be unfeasible for us to continue to sustain the servers, a number of developments have made it possible for us to continue to invest in and support our fans as they have continued to invest in and support us and Demon’s Souls. For all the gamers who have yet to discover the game’s amazing online experience, we’re happy to say you can still log on and find out why Demon’s Souls is still regarded by many as one of the finest games of all time.”
Even better, in conjunction with that, Atlus also said that they “did not rule out the possibility of future extensions of the North American servers, provided user activity and interest remain constant.”
To be honest, my attention has now turned to Dark Souls, so while I was sad to hear of Demon’s Souls going offline, it didn’t hurt me directly. However, I’d rather Demon’s Souls continue to be online for those who are still playing it, or who are coming to it new (possibly after playing and loving Dark Souls)—so this is great news.
For those still taking a trip to the land of Boletaria, online support lives on. Now go, and die!
