Xbox’s August Games with Gold is giving players four good reasons to have an Xbox Live subscription—or to at least throw down $10 for a single-month subscription.

First up is Forza Horizon 2 Standard – 10th Anniversary Edition for Xbox One, available from August 1st to August 31st. Forza Horizon 2 takes players on a tour of the Franco-Italian border while introducing seamless multiplayer to the open-world racing series. The edition on offer also gives you the 10th Anniversary car pack as extra goodies to sweeten the deal.

After that, Ubisoft’s embattled fighting game, For Honor Standard Edition, is available on Xbox One from August 16th to September 15th. For Honor is definitely one of those try-before-you-buy games, so if you haven’t bought it yet, good on you for waiting. It’s a great game at its core, though it got off to a rocky start thanks to its multitudes of microtransactions and terrible server stability at launch. Ubisoft has ironed out some of the game’s more obvious wrinkles, but it never fully recovered from the rest. Hopefully, a bunch of new players logging on will revitalize the community a little bit. For Honor‘s seventh content season, Storm and Fury, launches on August 2nd, so the timing couldn’t be better.

Xbox 360’s Games with Gold aren’t too shabby, either. Dead Space 3 will be available on Xbox 360 and Xbox One (through backward compatibility) from August 1st to August 15th. The finale to the epic sci-fi horror trilogy, Dead Space 3 sees series hero Isaac Clarke teaming up Sergeant John Carver to discover the origins of the Necromorph threat and end it for good. The game notably added cooperative multiplayer to the series as well as a much better movement system, though some have criticized it for not being as starkly horrifying as its predecessors. Still, it’s good fun with a buddy and even more fun because it will be free.

Finally, another co-op game is on offer in the form of Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, in which Mickey Mouse teams up with Oswald the Lucky Rabbit to once again save the forgotten characters of the Wasteland. It might not have gotten the best critical reception, but it’s definitely worth checking out when it’s available for free from August 16th to August 31st on Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

Remember, you must have a subscription to Xbox Live Gold if you want to partake in the juicy gaming fruits on offer next month.

Michael Goroff has been gaming for almost three decades. He's a lover of all games and systems, but he mostly plays Xbox. That being said, if he's a fanboy, he's a fanboy for the game industry as a whole. Spit white-hot fanboy hate at him, trash talk his Gold II rank on Rocket League, or maybe just send him a cordial hello on Twitter @gogogoroff.

August’s Xbox Games with Gold is probably the best it’s ever been

Next month's free games should make Xbox Live Gold members happy.
