THE BUZZ: The Australian Ratings Board has voted to finally include a new mature rating known as R18+.
WHAT WE KNOW: For years many Australian gamers have had to live with the fact that some games will never be released over there due to the Australian Ratings Board refusing to give some of them ratings due to excessive content such as violence and gore.
One member of the panel, NSW Attorney-General Greg Smith abstained from the vote, however the federal Government promised to override NSW and implement the new rating no matter what. Home Affairs Minister, Brendan O’Conner said;
“We’ve now struck an historic agreement and we can move forward to having an adult classification in this country as is the case in New Zealand, the US, Europe and many other parts of the world.”
EGM’s TAKE: It’s good to know that Australians will finally be able to enjoy the same games that the rest of the worlds gamers do without needing to import or play toned down versions of the original.
