Awesome Portal Video Shows Off “Real-Life” Portal Gun

Ever wonder what it would be like to have a real-life Portal Gun? Filmmaker Jason Craft has an incredibly well-polished and realistic take on what an actual, functioning one could do (in the wrong hands).

In the video below, an entire scene is edited to look like one single cut, impressively mimicking the warping aspects of the Aperture Science device. There’s undoubtedly a lot of mirror imagery and multiple cameras involved, but the trick camera work is pretty neat stuff.

As Craft notes in his video description, he also used 3D tracking and visual effects to polish the POrtal look:

This was the most challenging project I have ever undertaken, consisting of 3D tracking, seamless camera cuts and 3D camera projection. This started out as an experiment since I didn’t think I could even pull it off, if I knew it would’ve turned out as good as it did I would’ve put more of a story behind it.

They even manage to get the physics right, as one of his friends has to be rescued from an endless portal loop by being shot outside in order to bleed off the velocity from his fall, without breaking all his bones in the process. If YouTube isn’t your style, you can also watch “POrtal: Terminal Velocity on Vimeo.
